Found a hat pattern, modified it to better fit my odd-knitting needs — needed to try it out before using it for a gift. A co-worker will be getting this when I go back to work this week.
Vape Cozy!
So, yesterday was “meatball day”. Every three or four months, or whenever I run out of meatballs in the freezer, I spend an entire day making meatballs. This endeavor is followed with meatball subs for dinner and spaghetti & meatballs a few days later.
Anyhow, I started “vaping” a few months back (aka “electronic cigarettes”). While I was standing in the kitchen with “meatball hands”, I asked my partner to bring me my vape — and to hold it up to me…and make it operate — demanding, I know! LOL! While he was standing there doing this for me, he laughed and said “You need to make yourself a vape cozy”. Challenge accepted!

My first project…
How I got started…and a little about the name
So, I am browsing Facebook one day and decided to watch a video that a good friend posted. Ever see those “related videos” in YouTube? Well, for me, they are typically reasonably related to the video I just watched. Yeah, not this time — and I knew that I just HAD to look at the knitting video to see how they thought this was related. (Read: “YouTube Loop”). Yeah, well, it was a 3-part series about 45 minutes or so long. I watched all 3 videos — and knew I had to go out to buy needles and yarn to practice…about the same time that I exclaimed “How did she do that?!?!?” and backed up the video to rewatch it. (Read: “YouTube Loop”).
Now, on to the “Channeling Purl” name…
My paternal grandmother (who died in 2002) was a very “crafty” type of person. She did ceramics, macramé, crocheting…and knitting. Anyone she knew that had a child or grandchild coming got a baby blanket made by her. Most also got one of those ceramic Christmas trees with the embedded lights…but that is a story for another time. You would think that I would have been taught how to knit by her, she was an elementary school teacher afterall — but she was, well, “difficult”. Anyhow, her name was “Pearl” — so when I started texting my mom & sister pictures of my new handiwork, I would use the hashtag #ChannelingPurl.
…and here I am now, blogging as “Channeling Purl”.
I am a semi-English knitter. I attempted Continental — but I am a lefty, it just didn’t work as planned. My very first project was a baby blanket (yes, ambitious!). I told a co-worker that I was learning to knit and needed a project. She informed me that another co-worker was expecting and I should make her a baby blanket. This was in March 2014 and she was due in August — plenty of time, right? Oh. Emm. Gee. Every moment from then on that was not working or sleeping was spent knitting. A ton of un-knitting and cursing occurred during that time — but I got it done, with time to spare! I just finished up a lap blanket that is going to be a holiday gift…I will post pics of both soon.
Happy knitting — we’ll chat soon!
